Title: Evaluation of Sperm
Immobilization Factor from Staphylococcus Aureus as a Potential Candidate for
Male Contraception
π Reimagining Male Contraceptive Solutions
With limited options currently available for male
contraception, this research introduces an innovative approach using a
microbial-derived protein known as sperm immobilization factor (SIF). Extracted
from Staphylococcus aureus, SIF demonstrates strong potential to impair
sperm function and fertility.
π‘ Key Insights & Findings
∙πΈ SIF effectively immobilizes sperm and disrupts its biological functions
∙πΈ
Demonstrates strong contraceptive effects in experimental models
∙πΈ Induces
temporary infertility (azoospermia) without major toxicity
∙πΈ Targets
reproductive pathways with minimal systemic impact
∙πΈ Offers a
non-hormonal and potentially reversible alternative
πΏ Why This Matters
This research addresses a major gap in reproductive
healthcare by focusing on male-centered contraceptive methods. By
leveraging microbial factors, it opens new possibilities for safe, affordable,
and effective fertility control.

Speaker
Vijay Prabha is a former Professor in the Department of Microbiology at Panjab University, Chandigarh, India. She has 32 years of teaching and 42 years of research experience. Her areas of expertise include the role of microorganisms in male and female infertility, the use of microbial factors as contraceptive agents, molecular mimicry between bacteria and spermatozoa, and the study of bacteria–sperm interactions at the receptor–ligand level for the development of immunocontraceptives. Her research also focuses on protein profiling to understand microorganism-associated infertility. She has authored 107 publications in reputed journals and has presented her work at numerous national and international conferences as an invited and keynote speaker.
